Tired of so much gossip? Maybe this song will speak to you and help you unwind.

I found out that everybody talks

Everybody talks, everybody talks

It started with a whisper

And that was when I kissed her”

This song is fun and upbeat; definitely a good way to start a Music Monday. Forget about gossip and what people are saying. Focus on yourself, gaining positive energy, and have a wonderful week!

Need a Breath of Fresh Air?

Finally, the first snowfall of the year. Isn’t it gorgeous? As we know, many complications come with this terribly cold weather; the flu, colds, all kinds of sickness. However, this year I encourage you to try natural cures for when you’re feeling down this winter. Try to stay away from the nasal sprays and rubs that contains harmful chemicals in them. G2 Organics has a wonderful product called Breath of Fresh Air, which is an all natural aromatherapy treatment for cold, sinus, allergy, and flu sufferers. It is made out of botanical essential oils, rosemary, eucalyptus, tea tree, peppermint, lavender, red thyme, and ravensara. All of these blend together beautifully to help cure your sickness or even be an air freshener for your living room.

When you are sick, the best way to use it is as a steam treatment:

Directions: Add 1 tablespoon of Breath of Fresh Air to 1 cup of boiling water. Then, simply tent your head over the water with a towel and breath deeply for 5-10 minutes.

Women Absorb Over 500 Chemicals!

One of my previous blog posts talked about how the average woman uses on average about 12 beauty products a day, but what may be the most shocking to hear is that by using those 12 products you are absorbing about 515 chemicals!

Research conducted by a natural deodorant company, Biosen, found that a lot of the chemicals can severely damage our health and even speed up our aging process—even the products that are supposedly anti-aging! Though producers are required to list all of the ingredients, they are not required to list any impurities found in the raw materials, as long as they don’t end up in the final product.

One of the most controversial chemicals that is used in cosmetics are parabens. Parabens are used in many common products: shampoos, conditioners, gels, and lotions. They are actually designed and used because they preserve the shelf life of cosmetics, however, studies have linked them to serious health issues like breast cancer and even fertility problems with men.  Even though there is such a small amount in the beauty products, women are often using almost 12 products, and using them daily.

Take out your beauty bag, or go in your bathroom and read about your cosmetics and see what your body is absorbing daily. You will be surprised to see the harmful chemicals and ingredients that are put into those products. So, next time you’re shopping, read labels before you buy, or just go organic! It really doesn’t get much better than using all natural and organic cosmetics.

Here is the link to read more about it!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so I thought it would be great to help make others more aware. So many people have been affected by breast cancer, whether it is directly, or has happened to someone we know or love. I’m sure we all want to know what causes it, but we do not know for sure. However, there are some main risk factors that are known, and I would like to share them with you.  (These were reviewed by Arnold Wax, MD)

1. Women are more at risk for breast cancer if there is a family history of it. A woman that has a mother, sister or daughter that has had breast cancer is two to three times more likely to get breast cancer.

2. Age definitely has a factor; women over 50 are more likely to get it than younger women.

3. Though it is not for sure, there is said to be a link between breast cancer and hormones.  If a woman is more exposed to estrogen, they may be at a higher risk. Estrogen tells cells to divide, and the more that cells divide means that it is more likely to happen in an abnormal way. Abnormal growth of cells is how cancer is developed.

4. Finally, a link between diet and breast cancer is debated.  Some believe that obesity and drinking alcohol regularly can increase one’s risk. Some studies have even shown that women who’s diets are high in fat are likely to get the disease.

It is very important that women get their regular mammograms; it is the most common way that breast cancer is detected. Haven’t had a mammogram lately? Do a self-examination! http://women.webmd.com/healthtool-self-breast-exam

There is a lot more information on www.webmd.com and I encourage all women, (and men too!) to read and become educated on the subject.

So apparently Katy Perry and John Mayer are calling it quits again, but this time it’s for sure. John just can’t commit like Katy wants him to. John, don’t hold your breath, it doesn’t look like she’s coming back!

Anyone going through a back break up? Here are some words of advice from Nicole Scherzinger:

“Move on, don’t look back

I jumped off a train, running off the tracks

Your day’s gone, face the facts

A bad movie ends and the screen fades to black”

Homemade Beauty Recipes!

With the organic trend reaching new heights every day, you never know where its going to be taken next. Have you seen Jessica Alba’s non-toxic baby care company? The Honest Company is amazing, I can only imagine what else can be made non-toxic and organic. One thing people do know for sure though, is that it is expensive to live a completely organic lifestyle. So here are some recipes your own beauty products, it doesn’t get more organic than that!

The first beauty recipe is a great detoxifying moisturizer. Store bought lotions and creams can lock in so many chemicals in your body that it makes it more difficult for you to lose weight! This moisturizer was created by the founder of G2 Organics, Cherie Corso, who belives there are too many toxins in beauty products, so she mixes her own!

Ingredients:

-Lemon grass oil helps the body naturally detoxify and eliminate.

-Borax powder is a natural chemical substance, can be found in the detergent section of the grocery store.

-Beeswax heals and absorbs easily in the body.

-Add vitamin E, for extra moisturize.

Recipe:

(use glass mixing containers)

1/4 teaspoon borax powder

2 tablespoons grated beeswax

1/4 distilled water

1 tablespoon lemon grass oil

1 teaspoon vitamin E

Directions:

Dissolve the borax in water, set aside.
Next boil some water, place a glass jar in it of the mixture of the bees wax and your oils. Now slowley marry the two, pour the borax in, keep mixing, stir briskly. Then pour lotion into a clean container with a lid, let cool.

The next recipe is a revitalizing body scrub from beauty expert, David Pollock, and it is extremely easy to make. Body scrubs today are so full of unnecessary perfumes, but this one smells naturally delicious!

 Ingredients:

-3 cups of Sea Salt (coarse or fine, its up to you!)

-3/4 cup of Olive Oil

-3/4 cup of Sweet Almond Oil

-3-4 drops of Essential Oil (I suggest Peppermint or Spearmint)

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Use by massaging over
body to exfoliate rough, dead skin cells. Rinse well and
 follow with moisturizer.

Want more recipes? David Pollock has so many on his website, www.justaskdavid.com. Once you’ve gone through and made all of his recipes you will have a cabinet full, no need to buy harsh, toxic, chemical-filled beauty products again!
